A flag of the "Jaysh al-Mukhtar" or "Mukhtar Army", an Iranian-oriented
Shia-Muslim militia operating around in western Iraq since Feb. 2013. It was
founded by Wathiq al-Battat, a former senior official in the "Hezbollah
Brigades", but who was assassinated by unknown assailants at a road checkpoint
in eastern Iraq on 20 December 2014. This militia's goals were protecting Shia
religious shrines and possibly to suppress Sunni-Muslim protestors of the
Shia-oriented Iraqi government. Regarding this flag, just below the basic
Hezbollah logo is a red Arabic slogan that reads (right-to-left) "Jaysh
al-Mukhtar" or "Mukhtar Army". There is a hidden flag-pole sleeve at the left
(hoist) side.
